Community Food Initiative Food Grant Scheme
The Community Food Initiative has a bi-annual food grant scheme available to community projects/organisations in Newcastle to improve access to healthy food in local communities and/or support local people to have a healthy, varied and balanced diet. Addressing barriers to healthy eating, such as affordability or availability, the possible negative impact of culture and lack of food skills.
Grants of up to £1500 are available
The grants can be used to purchase equipment to get started from growing through to food preparation e.g. forks for digging to forks for eating.
Types of activities that would address the barriers to healthy eating:
Cookery or food preparation skills workshops
Increasing the availability of affordable healthy foods or meals
Building the skills of staff and/or volunteers to prepare healthy food or meals
Building the skills of staff and/or volunteers to provide healthy eating activities e.g. cookery workshops
Increasing the affordability or availability of healthy foods by growing fruit and vegetables
Cookery or food preparation skills workshops
Increasing the availability of affordable healthy foods or meals
Building the skills of staff and/or volunteers to prepare healthy food or meals
Building the skills of staff and/or volunteers to provide healthy eating activities e.g. cookery workshops
Increasing the affordability or availability of healthy foods by growing fruit and vegetables
